About usBirmingham Youth Theatre was formed in 1987, over the years, the highly regardedYouth Theatre have staged many successful shows, rightfully establishing anoutstanding reputation with audiences whilst nurturing and encouraging great talent inlocal young people.
At the Old Rep in Birmingham, the company has put on twoproductions every year since 1989 - and will be no exception!Meet the team:
Daniel Dickenson - Adminstrator/Director
I initially trained at Birmingham Theatre School before moving on to study a BAHonours degree at Coventry University.
In addition to being a graduate of BirminghamTheatre School, I also worked there as a resident director and tutor producing showsacross all courses.
Also the head of Birmingham Theatre Schools Youth Theatre forseveral years, during this time I created and directed over 70 productions.
I haveextensive experience working with a range of theatre companys around the countryand been involved in many Arts Council projects.
With my strong roots in theatre I amexcited to be part of BYT.
Melanie Flint - Choreographer/Secretary
I began ballet and tap at the age of four and progressed into muscial theatre andmodern dancing styles with Christine Ann School of Dance, where I performed in ourannual dance show at Solihull Arts Complex, and a variety of festivals andpantomimes.
I made the transition into amateur dramatics nine years ago performingwith BMOS in a number of productions at the Birmingham Hippodrome, the Old RepTheatre and the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham, including 42nd Street, Fame andCrazy For You.
I still perform with BMOS and am currently rehearsing for their nextshow.
I joined BMOS Youtheatre in 2008 and have since choreographed a number ofmusicals and pantomimes including Anything Goes, Oklahoma and Les Misérables(some of my favourites!).
I have sat on the audition panels for all of the youth theatreshows and am a member of our committee.
I am very excited to continue under our new name Birmingham Youth Theatre with agreat team and great group of performers.

After being a keen piano accompanist when still at school, I musically directed my firstpantomime production at the age of 16.
I graduated with a BSc in Physics and Musicand aside from a main job in I.T, I have since played in countless pit bands, orchestrasand groups (ranging from music theatre, classical, through jazz to salsa!).
Iveappeared on national radio and TV and to date have managed over 100 productions,many of which have been award winners.
Starting out at Bournville MTC (where Im stillMD after 20 years!) I have directed many other Midlands societies, and joined BMOSYoutheatre in 2010 for Hello Dolly; really enjoying their subsequent shows and pantos.Having become a full-time professional musician fairly recently, Im keen to continuemy work in musicals, and Im excited for the future of the renamed Birmingham YouthTheatre.
